What is Dental Clinic Accreditation Programme?
The MSQH Dental Clinics Accreditation Programme (DCAP) is a voluntary, independent programme supported and administered by oral healthcare professionals who are organised under the auspices of the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH). Accreditation Standards

International Society for Quality in Health (ISQua)

A self-assessment and external peer review process used by healthcare organisations to accurately assess their level of performance in relation to established standards and to implement ways to continuously improve the healthcare system.
The MSQH Accreditation Standards for Dental Clinics are grouped into eight (8) core areas:

Standard 1: Access to Care

Standard 2: Facilities and Equipment

Standard 3: Human Resource

Standard 4: Practice Addendum (Sedation practice)

Standard 5: Safety

Standard 6: Ethics

Standard 7: Clinical Governance

Standard 8: Quality Improvement Activities

The Dental Clinic Accreditation Programme provides an effective means of self-assessment, whereby oral healthcare organisations can assess their levels of performance against relevant national standards, which have been developed by oral health care professionals and are accepted for nationwide application in Malaysia. The Dental Clinic Accreditation Standards provide a benchmark against which Dental Clinics can regularly assess their organisational performance and improve continually in an on-going and incremental basis.
The MSQH Accreditation Standards for Dental Clinics are grouped into eight (8) core areas, of which the performance levels are deemed to have an impact on safe care and quality of service in the Dental Clinic. Each standard is reviewed and updated as and when feedback isreceived from the surveyors on issues of accuracy and ease of interpretation. The technical content and criteria are also updated in tandem with progress and changes in technology and best practices nationally and internationally.
The MSQH may accredit any healthcare facility or service as defined by the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998, which defines healthcare facility as any premises in which one or more member of the public receive healthcare services. Similar healthcare services in the public sector are also eligible to be surveyed and accredited.

Four Year Accreditation
A four-year Accreditation is awarded to Dental Clinics, which in the opinion of MSQH, substantially comply with the MSQH Dental Clinic Standards over and above compliance to all mandatory items. It should be noted that the Dental Clinic must achieve substantial compliance in all standards to achieve four-year Accreditation.
Delayed Accreditation
Delayed Accreditation is awarded to Dental Clinics which have: achieved compliance to all mandatory items, but have not reached substantial compliance in all standards; or achieved substantial compliance in all standards, but have not achieved compliance in all mandatory items.
Non-Accreditation
Accreditation cannot be awarded to a Dental Clinic where all the mandatory items and a significant number of standards are not complied with. Dental Clinics that are not accredited are encouraged to implement the recommendations made in the Survey Report and to re-apply for a survey at a later date. It is recommended that a minimum of twelve (12) months should elapse, to allow time for remedial action and rectification, before the next survey is undertaken.
